With a strong affiliation and alliance to USA Rugby, the Katy Rugby Club will adopt the guidelines and recommmendations as published on the USA Rugby website.
And, specific to the treatment of head injuries and concussions, the club will adopt this approach (navigates away from KRC website) in addition to the guidelines set out by USA Rugby, and the CDC... see here;

We strongly encourage all parents to read this document from USA Rugby.
Safety is everyones responsibility - it does not start and end with the coaching staff. As with any physical contact sport there is a need for the players themselves to be aware of all aspects of safety during practice and play. And everyone will benefit from learning a basic awareness of first aid - both in the home and on the field.
Please reveiw the information in the Medical and Safety tab on USA Rugby's website.
Two things are of particular imortance for our young players:
- General fitness and conditioning to participate in physical activity (a check-up with your Doctor prior to participation in any physical activity would be a wise investment)
- Hydration, hydration, hydration. In our Texas climate we cannot stress enough the importance of good hydration. Players should arrive at practice or game day fully hydrated BEFORE participation and bring plenty of drinking water with them. It is parents and players responsibility to ensure they come prepared with their own supply.
And don't forget the sunscreen.....high factor (45 suggested minimum, sweatproof) or sunblock is recommended.

Severe Weather Safety
In the event of severe weather in the practice or playing area, the team Coaches will take the lead to suspend outdoor activities and seek shelter for all. Given that we will be using mostly K.I.S.D. fields we will be bound by their and USA Rugby's Policies with regards to severe weather.
